Teal Cactus, 40” x 60” oil on linen was painted in 2021 for an exhibition at the University of Texas Rio Grand Valley titled “Sophia’s Song.” This piece was inspired by my first cactus painting titled “Abuelita’s Cactus” from 2012. Both were painted from nopales at my grandparent’s ranchito. This piece epitomizes the style of constant movement as rhythms of pads and spines keep the eye traveling.
