Painted in 2012, Luz del Monte was the first painting in which I started depicting what I saw in the environment- a constant exchange of energies all working together. This path is from the Mission Hike and Bike trail in Mission, Texas. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited- dappled light filters through winding mesquite and onto twisting cactus in various stages of decay.

I came close to throwing this painting away. I didn’t understand it at the time. It’s now one of my favorite pieces and represents a turning point in my work and understanding of my subject.
