Cypress Studies

I'm working on a series of studies for an artwork featuring a giant Montezuma Cypress.

I needed some real world inspiration.  (There's only so far I can get with photos in the studio). The 900 year old model is a bit of a drive, so I popped out to draw a young one just down the road.

I enjoyed a beautiful morning listening to the Chachalacas chatter and getting lost in the gentle rhythm of limbs and branches.
