South Texas Coastal

"South Texas Coastal" is a retrospective of artwork depicting wildlife along the South Texas Coast by artist Jessica Monroe. Her paintings offer the viewer a meditative glimpse into our native wildlife. They are hopeful celebrations of the natural world, teeming just beyond the concrete sprawl. Monroe’s art endeavors to make visible this world, often overlooked in modern lives dominated by technology and commerce.

The work is inspired by the writings of Thich Nhat Hanh, Richard Rohr, Wendell Berry, and others, who argue for the spirituality of nature as it relates to the current ecological crisis. In her creative practice, Monroe uses outdoor meditations to connect with the subject.  The paintings reflect her experiences wandering these sacred spaces where the artist feels both awakened and at peace.
